205 Bonnet Not Sitting Properly

Recommended Posts

205BigTosh

since i have fitted the 406 2 litre 16v, i cant seem to get the bonnet to sit down on the passenger side, it sits up about half an inch when the catch is properly in. the drivers side is perfect.

i have looked across from both wings across to see what would be stopping it but the only thing that really sticks up is the dipstick. removed this with the engine hooks but just the same.

when i had the s16 in, the bonnet had a piece cut out of the support frame. has anyone had a similair problem and how they fixed it.

sounds like it could be a snapped bolt on the passenger side hinge. They often fail.

the bolts are all fine, i meant to add that its level from the hinge down then starts to raise from a quarter of the way down to the headlight end, cant get pics posted up as their a problem with sizing

grr its annoying

A dollop of grease on anything suspect, then gently close the bonnet , grease will transfer to bonnet, and that's the offending item(S)!

Is the hinge linkage greased/working properly?

hi mat, yes everything is greased, when the origonal bonnet was on one of the bolts had snapped in the body, so it had to get re-tapped. i wouldnt have thought maybe the re-tapp would alter this that much. when i push the offending side down it twist the bonnet and raises the other side up slightly..

ive tried removing the bolt that was repaired to see how the bonnet flexes but it made no difference.

i shall try the dollop of grease on suspect items and see whats what.

cheers martin
