Stereo Fuse

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

ok, so I removed the working tape player from my gt, and replaced it with an old cd player I had lying around. but it doesn't work at all, I assumed the cd player had just snuffed it so I tried my known working one out of my xs, and the same thing. I visually inspected the fuses but couldn't see a blown one, which one should I ne looking for? or is there summit else that might've gone?

cheers

john

Is there an inline fuse by any chance? Use a continuity tester to see if the power is coming to the permanent and ignition live feeds and also if the earth going to the stereo isn't nipped somewhere too.

Not trying to be pedantic but some people may not know what you mean,a continuity tester is used for checking a circuits continuity,I think what you actually meant was a volt meter to check for power.

It certainly sounds like fuse blown if a known working head unit suddenly fails to work.

In glovebox the fuse tray there has a couple of 25 amp ones, when mine blew it was one of these, from memory it was in the middle, ish...

Try a search, the full list of fuses & what rating / circuits they protect is definately on here because I've posted it several times.

Have you searched for the fuse listings?

Does the cd player have a built in fuse at the back of the unit or an inline one as suggested by Dee above?

Ive checked all the other fuses in the fusebox and the fuses in the back of both the cd players, so only thing i can think of is that i mustve dislodged some wiring whilst cack-handedly removing the tape player

No, I meant a continuity tester. ;)http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KD-Tools-2647-Self-Power-Circuit-Continuity-Tester-/190490793448?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item2c5a22d5e8

Bit of wire with a crocodile clip and a bulb usually. You clip this onto an earth point or wire. You then poke the pointy end into or make contact with the live. The bulb will light up if there is power.

The thing you have linked to is a continuity tester as it supplies its own power. The device you describe, which is powered by the circuit being tested is NOT a continuity tester.

My bad. Circuit tester is what I was talking about.
