Lambda Sensor For Xsara Vts Engine

Recommended Posts

danpass15

Hi,

Will soon be doing engine conversion on my 205 with a xsara vts engine, keeping the ecu and standard management. Do I need to fit a lambda sensor and if so will a universal one be ok, how many wires, is it a 4 wire universal one?

Was trying to change the cambelt today and snapped one of the pulleys :(

Are you meant to use a special tool to lock them in place, I tried it with some screws that fit through the wholes with little movement, but the nut was so tight was hitting it with a hammer and then one of the pulleys broke.

It's a 4 wire lambda.

The timing holes are only meant for timing up the cams and crank, and are NOT meant for locking it to allow you to undo them! Try that, and as you've found, something breaks.

4 wires, and yes you do need one.

pretty generic, most 306's 106's and the citroen variants will have the same one.

as stated in all of the timing belt changing articles you should not use the timing pins to lock the pulleys whilst removing the bolts, you should use a tool to hold them still which looks like this -

What pulley did you snap? Inlet/exhaust?

I have a spare inlet pulley but i think they're the same anyway.

I have a fly wheel locking tool i fabricated for locking the crank.

Basically cut a piece of 3mm steel the shape of a large flat fag lighter, then grind a hook at the top to lock in the teeth then a hole at the other end to bolt it to the sump. I used this so i could fit a lightened fly wheel, will be using it for the cam belt.

Can see the next post of, my head is making a tapping noise.

To snap a later pulley you must have been hitting it hard as they normally come undone without too much effort normally

O yea, forgot how close the tolerances were.

Was it the pulley with three 13mm bolts on? Or did these only ever come on 6 engines?

they were 10mm heads, and came on the XU7J4 XU10J4R and J4RS, a similar variant was used on the TUD5, DW8 and ES9J4 engines.

both are the same on the RS, same hub is used on the R inlet.

Like I said I've got an inlet pulley spare, but looks like you only need the timing hole tab bit. I'll see if i can get it off later, remind me by pm if you don't hear anything got alot on

ok thanks Paul, do you not think we will still be able to line it up by locking the flywheel?

not as accurately as you need to as there is some adjustment in the pulley, plus there's the risk of the camshaft moving when not pinned as the valve springs are quite strong.
