Steering Wheel Pulls Towards Me

I took my 205 for an MOT this morning. The tester picked up on a problem with the steering wheel (or rack), it is possible to pull the steering wheel towards you by about an inch or so. Its not loose, it takes a little bit of effort to do this. Its then possible to push it back with the same amount of effort.

 

What could the problem be? Could it be something broken in the steering column or perhaps in the steering rack?

might be a loose clamp on the intermediate column or onto the rack itself, or massive play in the pinion.

Thanks welshpug. All sorted now. It was a loose clamp in the steering column

I sorted the same problem on my car the other day. Loosened off the uj in the car (13mm) pull the steering towards the seat and did the bolt up again.

Removed the inch of play i had

The nut on these is a locking type so if yours are coming loose I would replace them or use something else to stop them coming undone again.
