Hmm Should I?

Hi all,

Right ok I have a 93 1.9 Miami in prety good nick which is totally std apart from a K&N and only 79k on the clock.

One thing has bugged me from day one though - the carpet! Back in the day I had 2 Gti's and they both had red carpets which made them stand out(in my eyes anyway) however the current car has a boring grey carpet. I bought a red carpet some months but hadnt fitted as I was missing one bit!

So at long last it looks like I am about to get a PH2 center console with the red carpet (the missing bit!) so I have no excuse not to get on with it. Also it gives me the chance to fit a better passenger and rear seats that are sat in my garage.

However I am acutely aware that it would mean the car is now not 'std' or could you get 93' cars with red carpets?

Would I be devaluing the car - I'll probably store the grey carpet and centre console(unless someone makes a huge offer for it :D ) so I could put it back in the future or am I worrying about nothing and I should just get on with it.

Thoughts and opinions greatly appreciated.

Just keep the grey carpet, console etc in the loft or something and then you can refit it if you ever sell.

Until then, if you prefer the red carpet, fit the red carpet!

Hi Tony - yeah I should just get on with it really!

Did 93 cars come with red carpets - optional maybe?

Did you get the money ok?

One of the main things I like about my 93 is the grey carpet, only pre cat gti's came with red carpet.

I'm still hunting for a tidy ph2 with grey (or green) carpet - that's my ideal 205 look. Just shows that different strokes please different folks!

The red is somewhat more iconic, but the grey looks a bit "posher". But yeah fit what you prefer and keep the other one. It won't devalue anyway imo, especiallly if you keep the grey one also.

I love red carpets in GTIs! It's almost a shame to put mats onto of them!

I think they look better with the red carpets, but if you have room to store the original I would keep it

What they said! Red for the win, but hold onto the original in case you need to sell the car.

Do you have any carpet in the boot btw? Mine (1990 red) just has a rubber mat with some (well past sell by date) underlay underneath it.

Got all of them, Red, Grey and Deep pile grey (Gentry) with Pretend wood door caps, Still prefer the red as it brightens up the cabin instead of being dull grey which most modern cars are now
