Mi16 Gearbox

How do I identify a mi gearbox if the "label" has gone with numbers on it? Would one tell tale sign be that box has no hole for cps, be3 clutch arm and lift reverse?

Also, where would the cps have been mounted when it was in a bx or 405? I guess it must have had a cps fitted?

Crank sensor for the ecu is always at the top of the bellhousing next to the block, lift reverse would be a BE1 box, with a push type BE3 style arm its likely to be an MI16 box, though could also be a diesel box....

only way to be 100% is to whip the diff out and check the numbers :)

If there really is no hole for the CPS then that pretty much rules it out being an Mi16 box, as they all used a CPS!

Only real way to be sure is to whip the diff cover off and see what the final drive is - should be 4.4 if it's an Mi16 'box.

Easiest way to tell at first glance is as WP says, be1 selector arms but be3 clutch arm(And a CPS hole of course!!)

Were all 405 BE1 gearboxes not that style though? I wouldn't rely on it being an Mi box solely because it's a mix of BE1 internals and a BE3 clutch arm...

Anyone know for sure what numbers would be on that label to identify if mi? Think some say bl9 or bl10 etc?? Also, if I do take off cover, what will be stamped and whereabout?? Cheers

P.s Baz, did you have White tailgate And if so pm me a price please. Can pick up asap.

thats a 3.58 -1 final drive ratio, so pretty long and diesel like, could be from an 8 valve 405 or bx as they were a bit longer legged than the 205
