New Starter

Good afternoon all,

On Saturday, I replaced the starter with a new RTX one (Europarts) and can confirm that you can indeed remove the unit with the air intake in place. However, this is off topic slightly as my question is rather simple and just needed a little reassurance.

In essence, the old starter was big bulky and had a bracket at the back, which attached to the block by two nuts then a bar to the bottom of the air intake but the replacement RTX unit was much smaller and longer. Due to this, the bracket does not fit and will not fit back on the block as it fouls the unit.

As a result, I have left it off and do not believe that there will be any consequential damage but was just wondering your thoughts?

Also, I had to use a three foot extension bar on the hex nuts as someone was obviously font of loctite? He he, the joys of old car ownership.

Regards

Chris

Chris, no problem leaving the bracket off.

Loctite on the starter bolts is a good idea though, as they can work loose if not properly tight.

Yes, if it's not fitted you can get alignment issues but mine now stay in the gearbox.
