Engine Plumbing/wiring Madness

Pugs in Pieces

picked up a cti last weekend, only really found time to look at it today, upon first drive it seemed to have a very loud knocking noise coming from the suspension,i put my foot down along the track and lost all drive, further inspection revealed the gearbox being held in by 1 finger tight bolt and the metal cover plate underneath, obviously something has come adrift, i bought the car at night so didnt check alot, just wether the door and window rubbers were any good!. the seller told me the brakes were no good, i thought the servo had packed up as it felt rock hard, turns out they had connected the servo hose to the bleed screw on the thermostat housing, in turn the throttle body heater pipe was connected to the oil filler cap, also the filler neck was connected to the sad, the sad wiring has been chopped and joined into the afm wiring, the afm is off a 2.2 senator according to the numbers on it, the water nose from thermostat housing bleed was connected to the header tank and the servo pipe feed was connected to the other throttle body heater pipe.

absolute madness. and its got 11 months mot!!!!!!!

Sounds like he knows his mot tester well.

I'd be stripping the whole car and check he hasn't connected the brakes into the fuel lines

Although not as bad as this i've seen a few with misconnected pipes in my time, it is not that much of a suprise really as the standard 8v setup really is a horrid rats nest of pipes and cables all over the place.

I helped a boy in blackwood reconnect the wiring harness on his 1.9 a few years ago, after he changed the gasket (by himself! :o ) and to my horror, he had a water pipe connected to the oilbreather!

Ha ha ha. Stayed at the Camden Lock Hotel in North London a few times, and one time they had problems with the heating and the toilet cistern had boiling hot water in it  Was quite cozy on the bum though. Central heating for the butt cheeks.
