Running Issues, Possibly Caused By Useage....

Pugs in Pieces

i have a regular customer who has been bringing his 205 to me for a while now, fitted a rebuilt engine 8 months ago, fully rebuilt 1.9 engine, he has now given hos car to his son who uses it for delivering takeaways at night, the problem is idleing, although whenever it comes to me to be sorted its totally fine, i was wondering if all the stop start driving his son does could cause any issues? as when the car is driven a little distance ie bringing it 20 miles to me its running fine. had him in again today, his son says the car is hunting 1000-1500 rpm and wont tick over.

evrything has been changed, cleaned, cleaned again and all tested fine on other cars.

im getting to a stage now where im running out of patience as it appears to be fine all the time when its with me. there is a build up of mayo in the cap due to condenstion from the short journeys it does, i am hoping people will agree with my assumption its down to the driving style and useage.

any ideas? thanks

Probably

Why don't you just ask them to leave it with your for a day so you can let it cool down completely and then see if the fault occurs from cold.

i'd try another afm, my 309 was like this till i fitted a remanufactured item, though the usage its getting certainly wont help.

may be worth checking the alternator too as a low voltage can cause hunting too

have done this, has the usual slight sputtering on start up but clears in seconds and runs perfect, cold start works the lot.

the afm has a sticker on from atp suggesting it has been recond recently, have not tried the alternator Meirion will do next time i see it, which probably wont be long!
