Gti Weird Idle

Recommended Posts

205_sunderland

Since ive adjusted the gti air bleed screw to set idle correct when cold it started acting a little od

1) when cold the idle hunts a little

2) once the car has been running for a few minutes it then starts stall the car when left to idle on its own then after drving a while its fine again.

The idle when warm seems about right but does hunt a little sometimes.

I looking for ideas of what i need to check, set-up, and do to make it idle right,it smells quite rich aswell but im confused why it idles quite high at start, then after few minutes starts stalling without pedle help and then seems alright once warm. Im going to do full tb set-up once i get an ohm meter and get the mixture screw free

cheers mick

Sure it was not something other than the adjustment of the mixture screw that was causing the idle to be out?

Throttle cable adjustment?

Coolant temp sensor?

SAD Valve?

TPS?

AFM full of cack?

I love GTi's they are a fault lottery when something is not working correctly, if you have a missfire, check the brake fluid level!!

 it does missfire under light load e.g. if you driving in 4th and at low revs pressing accelerator lightly in will cough from time to time bust the rest of the time its fine

and i havent checked anything really, i did have all the pipes off to do breather hoses and idle seemed a little higher since but i checked all clips and there as tight as possble and well pressed over at joins

Sounds to me like it's overfuelling, and i'd maybe start with the ecu temp sensor. They're only about a tenner and easy to replace. If it's not that, at least you've got peace of mind that you've got a new sensor that should last for years to come.

Anthony

Very common issue, and usually down to a combination of not being setup properly and the occasional faulty AFM etc.

It must be one of the most discussed faults on here, and a search will reveal literally pages and pages of information on it.

sometimes the search doesnt bring up alot of topics you want which was why i started it, i tried typing idle in last night and got one or two posts back which were irrelvant but ive seen topics discussing it before and just couldnt find them on search when i tried

the tb doesnt have a special lock on the small screw either, does that mean once i free it up it will just move?
