Welding A Repair Panel. Best Leaving Engine Loom Off?

Just about to do some welding on the car to repair a hole in the inner wing.

Worried about frying the loom/ battery

 

The engine is in the car but the engine loom isnt connected.

 

What have other people done? Just leave battery disconnected?

 

I've done a search on the forum but as usual fails. Does it not search topic titles like the 306gti6.com forum, which turns up trumps everytime.

Disconnect battery, alternator, ECU.

Just put them driveshaft nuts on I got off you tom. Spot on

If you have one of those thick welders aprons, you could use that to cover the engine bits and protect them from the welding. Careful about any other panels that are close to the weld area in case the heat travels and distorts them.

 

Surely removing the battery is all thats needed, why unplug/remove the others ?

hi i was in trade worked in bodyshop for thirty years when mig welding all we would do is disconect battery. never had any probs

I have only ever disconnected the battery!

Same as above disconect battery or get a surge protector on it
