Replacement Stereo And Speakers For 205

Recommended Posts

maturin23

Hi all

Now my 205 has had some serious preventative maintenance I may consider journeys from A to B rather than just A to A :)

Be nice to be able to have some audio, but my stereo and speakers have not worked for a while.

I'm looking for something basic but functional - I'm not interested in audiophile quality or seriously boosted bass - but I want to be able to hear stuff over the drone of the exhaust.

I'm a bit of an old fogey, so I'd like something that can cope with a mix of blues, classical, jazz and talk radio. I don't listen to electronic dance music at all.

I'd like to be able to plug in a USB stick and maybe an aux input to play from my HTC Desire HD - something optimised for USB rather than CD.

I must be able to listen to Test Match Special - so either LW or DAB I guess.

I'd like to be able to use the existing speaker housings - no sub-bass units in the boot.

Budget at this stage isn't fixed, but cheaper is better.

Any ideas?

most radios over about 80 pounds come with what you want they also push out about 40 watts so is this enough?[ would avoid sony]

if not a small amp to power the speakers but depends where you fitting speakers.think the back shelf is the best place but do you want them on show? if not you will need a steah shelf but you can screw your amp to it so its out the way as well.

I was assuming I could get away with just using the front speakers. At the most I'd consider replacing the rears with similar size speakers into the same housing - I don't want to much about with cutting up the parcel shelf or installing amps in the boot. For me that would be taking it way too seriously!

Was in Halfords the other day and they had some replacement Alpine speakers for around £26 the pair, from memory they had 50% off at that price.
