New Carb Setup Leaking Fuel

Spend the best part of last night getting the carbs fitted that I got from Anthony. Everything went fairly well apart from not being able to tighten the bolt on the cambelt side, meaning it leaked coolant.

 

That aside, it wass running for 10 mins with no problems then all of a sudden the variable fuel regulator started leaking fuel, quickly. I've tried orientating it in all different positions but it flows out at quite a rate, from between the body of the regulator and the dial.

 

Can someone check I have everything setup right, I'm not bothered about location, I know it shouldn't be all on top of the rocker cover, but this is just to get it running.

Worth mentioning I took the return pipe off the first regulator and a lot of air hissed out, no fuel. I gave the pipe a hard blow and it didn't feel blocked, then a bit of fuel squirted out when I stopped blowing. Is there a good way to check of the return is blocked?

Certainly didn't leak or weep whatsoever when it was fitted to my car :unsure:

 

I guess if it ran for 10 minutes no problem then it wasn't damaged in transit either, and it's either just terrible luck that it just failed, or more likely, something's caused it to fail. I'm hazarding a guess that it's not rated to much pressure wise, and thus if there was something amiss that meant the first regulator wasn't reducing the pressure sufficiently - possibly such as a blocked/restricted return - I guess that would be enough to cause the seals to fail and it to leak fuel.

 

Told you that the cambelt end manifold bolt is fun to get at though... worse come to it and you can't do it, then I think jacking the engine up a little and removing the engine mount casting should give you plenty of space to get at it. I managed (just) without doing that, but occured to me afterwards that in my case it would have been much easier since I'd removed the engine anyway and thus just three bolts to undo.

Are you using the std Fuel Pump?

 

If so the first Pressure Reg should have a return to the tank to ditch 99% of the pressure and the last one just to finely adjust the pressure to the carb's,

it looks like the fuel return is 't' ed into the main in fuel line by the pic, This would be why as the other reg cannot handle the pressure

The picture is mis-leading Miles - the fuel return comes off the bottom of the regulator, and there's two feeds from the regulator that are T-'d down into one.

Had that prob when I ran the sytec reg, A bit of ptfe tape seemed to cure the leak.

I would ditch the tank pump and run a facet silver or red top pump instead.

Turned out to be a split diaphram in the reg, new one on and all is fine! :)

Pretty bad luck then that it chose that moment to fail, as they'd been on the car working fine for a few years previous

 

Glad to hear that it's all working well now though with a replacement regulator :)

 

(PS. I found some paperwork relating to the carbs and what jets etc they're currently fitted with which I'll send over to you at some point)
