My 2Nd Car

Recommended Posts

As titles says this is my 2nd car at the moment. I have always liked the classic Imprezas and while my 205 was off the road I thought it’d be a good opportunity to get one. I thought some of you might like to see, and some haters might like to bitch

I was originally looking for any cheap one to thrash around in but I saw this one for sale from a reputable company called Scooby Clinic which was fully serviced with warranty and one of the rare three door shells so I couldn’t resist buying it.

It’s a JDM ’98 Impreza type R with a Scooby Clinic billet turbo and Simtec ECU (with anti-lag) mapped to 335bhp, other than that its more or less standard.

I like it....If I was to get one it would be one of these or a Richard Burns special..

not sure about the skirt kit though (especially the one on the rear bumper)? is it a standard item or aftermarket kit.

I like it as well.

How many miles does it have and how is the driving experience in comparison with a 205?

The first generation Imprezas and especially the R's are supposed to have the most pure driving feel, the problem is finding a good and well cared one as most have been bought by chavs who can't afford to run them.

You probably won't find many people here that don't like it, i love the three doors, espeically in that colour, always loved the sound of a good scooby.

Good point to point cars.

I've always fancied getting one of these and stripping off the bodykit to make it look like the old rally car (not a fan of bling)

Owning my own business in a recession has stopped that idea dead.

It’s currently approx 75k miles, as for driving its excellent. As soon as I drove it I had the confidence to have a play on the way home and the grip is crazy. I can’t really comment how it is compared to a 205 because it’s been 2 years this September since I drove mine. I’d say it’s the same or better but without the understeer when accelerating out a corner, and the time it takes to hit over 100 is silly so it really does launch out of corners :D.

I totally agree about finding a good one, being on an Impreza forum when I was buying one I read some horror stories about new owners buying bad ones etc, apparently when they’re problematic they really are a huge expense to sort out. This is why I decided to buy one with warranty and luckily the only problems I have had is a MAF sensor and a seized caliper which were sorted out straight away.
