Still Got Running Problems Under Load

Sounds like most things have been tried and can be ruled out?

I think I would be trying a known good dizzy as could be the internal position sensor or wiring at fault?

is this the engine you have recently done the head change on?

is it using any water?

whats the oil looking like?

have you done a compression test?

how old is your fuel?

Are all of the earths ok?

I would be tempted to re time the engine to make sure it hasnt jumped a tooth after you timed it.

Im guessing the AFM I sent you wasnt much use as you've gone carbs! :)

I haven't received the afm, dcc. I assumed you'd forgotten to send it as you hadn't asked for any payment for the postage? I fitted the carbs and it had exactly the same problem. It was also the same before I changed the cambelt etc so I know the timing is okay.

I changed for a second set of plug leads yesterday and it did 35 miles without any trouble, then it started to stuttering ever so slightly on the last 5 miles. So its either because I haven't yet changed the coil/dizzy cap lead or something is causing the leads to break down prematurely. It's running much better now but is still down on power and feels quite unrefined, however it still needs setting up etc.

I sent it for free through dads work :D no postage costs. might be worth having carbs set up on your engine tho.

Oh right - I'll let you know if it turns up!

I'll be taking it to Carl Chambers in Diss next monday hopefully, to get them tweaked - there's not much that needs doing as they came off a 1.6, identical apart from the 285 cam.

But it'll get me to work, that's the main thing! Hopefully this thread is now closed

would be very interested to here what the problem is with this as im having the same problem with my mi16 at the moment have done the same and now fitted 45's instead of the standard injection set up and still having the problem. i have it between about 2200rpm and 3500rpm once over this runs fine and is not as bad on tick over but still there. did have some head work done (valves reseated) as had poor compression due to corrision on the valve seats but is now making good compression and still same issue

Turned out to be dodgey HT leads, replaced all 5 with some quadcore 10mm jobbies and its been fine. Shame I didbt realise before I spent £300 on the carbs!

In my defence I had already changed them once but they were cheap and nasty.
