Got a set of Speedlines refurbished as I wanted a neater set of wheels. Out of the 5 sets I had none were very good so I had a clear out and thought I'd treat the car to these:

Luckily I can still blame the weather for lack of progress

Been buying more stuff as thats effectively progressing with a project. The fitting is the easy bit.

Until I get the car back home in a few weeks I decided to paint a few bits and pieces.

309 GTi lower arms.

424A3721-83A6-4922-997B-7B04EF72FF7F-913

S16 mount to eventually sort the alternator positioning out.

4184BA00-AEA0-42B9-B1EF-89D598A5BBE3-913

Got a 16 row Mocal oil cooler with thermostatic plate from Lewis/Jord on here.

6FE13E40-33E6-45CC-B00D-27778E7C1F5B-913

Will replace the hoses with crimped lines when I know how long I want them.

Got some very good condition Ph2 rear lights for Justin Case

80F955CA-EAC9-4022-8EB5-2580A2A28EE0-913

I have long contemplated whether to fit ph2 rears or not. I don't mind the earlier lights and they suit the grey trims but I have a full interior harness to swap it straight over so can easily go back if I change my mind afterwards.

Some 309 GTi driveshafts should be arriving this week ready to swap the lot over in the next month or so when the car comes back and up on to axle stands for a fairly large make over inside and out.

Couple more deliveries today including the 309 GTi driveshafts :)

55DD1814-3A87-4450-ABDF-86C9A74CB3CE-103

Another big thanks to Jorg. Always brilliant communication and quick delivery.

And finally a couple of bits of expensive plastic that I have been longing for.

12760075-752A-480F-966A-0F1F810887A9-103

Rallye blanks :D

OK OK they shouldn't belong on a GTi. Meh. It's my car and I love the look of them :P

I'm more game for a laugh than most so happy to giggle if your throwing the line out - but if you've genuinely noticed something of concern that I should be taking a closer look at - let me know as I don't know if you're joking or not :)

After nearly 7 months of being tucked away - today the car was finally reunited with daylight!

0494297B-2CBE-48C3-A58F-62221B71F4C9-223

And off it went for welding.

1DFC8F72-EA6E-496E-A9C4-9357A520FFE5-223

Looking forward to having it taken back home when it comes out of there. Can then get it road legal again and put some hours in fitting my bits and pieces.

Continually been buying more bits than I've actually got round to fitting the existing bits - but progress is progress!

Bought some R888's ready for when it eventually makes it to a track this year  Need to grab a set of light wheels to pop them on. Probably C5 'steels'.

I'll be honest and say at times I've wondered whether I've still the entusiasm to 'finish' it. Hoping to buy a property in the next few months so have had a few things to think about but I've this image in my mind of how I want this car to be so it's only right I get on with it and get it done.

She'll be on the road in a couple of weeks.

Popped a coat of paint on the cage. Had a harness bar added when it was welded in.

Seats were fitted today. Need to sort the harness eye bolts out this week.

I've a week off now so should be able to throw a few hours at the car before the weekend.

Thanks Steve :)

I've got 10 days or so until it gets taxed so later on I'm just going to man up and rip the whole front running gear off and then I'll have no choice but to renew everything sharpish - I've got all the bits.

There's an open pit day at Combe during the week before the RS day so I may pop up. Depending whether I do the day on the 2nd or not would depict whether I took it out at RS day or not. Could just go for the show though. We'll see.

It's on the 2nd July. Listed with Javelin. It's £149 at the moment.

Going to put the carpet back in shortly so had it washed in the bath. It's come up like new - well worth doing!

A5CB5D3E-4905-4299-88B1-36EC71F89226-981

All my front end bits are off. Only thing left to remove is the gearbox which I'll do when I'm ready to put the new bits on. I bunged a 309 lower arm on which I painted back along and I soon realised I should give the hubs a lick of paint while they are off :)

Hope to get most of it back on over the next few days between fiting the harnesses and going over the cage again with another coat to finish it off and installing the carpet nearly around the seat and cage mounts. I may cut and shut another carpet into it. I want it to be as neat as I can make it.

Annoyingly it's always the 'smaller' jobs that take the time. Finally finished the cage painting. The painting wasn't so much the issue, the sanding was a bore - anyway it's done!

Gearbox is finished and ready to go. Will fit the suspension bits over the next week.

Got some underlay earlier and spent a good couple of hours carefully trimming the carpet around the cage and seat mounts. It's come out well so was worth the effort. Really is beginning to look like a car again now and just a few more dash bits to refit and that'll be all for now in there.

Roll on 1st June! :D
