Finally got the GTI back from the bodyshop today. Here are a couple of pictures. Prior to the paint, laquer peal was pretty bad, areas of faded paint, rust on the sills..Really happy with the standard of the job. I'll be at pugfest but sadly not on the club stand as didn't buy a ticket. :( Glad i got it back in time anyway.

Its a ph 1 1.9. Got it back this morning. Only went to mcdonalds and got 1 wave from another driver, and spent 10 minutes on a maccys car park chatting to a bloke who used to have one. Now its sprayed it feels extra special tbh. Just need to put the red stripe on the front bumper if anyone has one PM me.

It looks great and is my favourite colour!

There can't be many ph1 in such condition!

Was it a complete stripdown and respray or just a blow over and how much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks mate.

The respray was all glass out, cut all the rust out, rewelded fresh sills in, had things like kick plates blended in. Also had the trim dyed black. I know phase 1's are meant to be grey but i think it looks better with black against red. Set me back a little over £1000. Its cost alot lately, rear beam has been refurbed, clutch replaced, so i thought stuff it may aswell have it looking the part. Happy chappy. :)

Looks really good - a properly red GTi does look very nice indeed, just a shame that they're usually orange or pink these days :)

I'm sure that a spare stand pass could probably be found on the day for you if you want it on the stand at Pugfest.

That looks ace, proper phase 1. B)

The red bumper strips are available from Pug & not to expensive, tbh a second hand one just wouldn't look right for the £20 a new one costs imo (part # 745184).

There was a stand pass topic in the for sale section, I only approved the topic about 30 mins ago but Stufarri has replied already so you might be to late.:(

Looks lovely and original! Great work.

Gave miy cherry red shed a proper good going over with the orbital and some fancy polishing gear the other day and the results were awesome considering the state it was in. The car's back to turning heads again now which makes me smile big time! :)

Looks superb. My 205 is red and is somewhere in between Cherry shed and a reasonably tidy red 205. But for some reason other peoples red 205's always look much nicer in pictures than mine does?!

Thanks mate. The whole of the passenger side sill was replaced as it was completely knackered, and drivers side was probably partially replaced.

Cheers, some camera's dont pick up red very well, thats the trouble. Saying that it looks better in the flesh. It gave me a little feeling as to what it must have been like picking it up in 1987.

Was thinking about a gti6 conversion but i think i'm just going to keep this one as it is.

Cheers.

I'll take a few more pictures the weekend, maybe try and take some arty looking ones.

It seems everytime i try and park far away from other people to avoid parking dinks, i get back and there is a lorry or a truck parked right next to me. Really annoying :( Why can't they just stay away. Sigh.

lol im glad im not alone.

I parked at halfords the other day, miles away from everyone, when i returned there was like a juggernaught parked literally right next to me on an otherwise, empty part of the car park.

That sounds more like, he came in saw a really nice looking 205 and thought mmm ill make that look crap compared to my beast of a car, so people notice mine and not yours, inferior complex

One of my scratches was caused by a wheelbarrow! My dad left it in the road and I scraped the side of it as I reversed out of his drive. Doh!

Looks very tasety. I remember my first 205 GTi looking like that when I purchased it in 1991. Cherry red 1986 (D) 1.6. 1 previous owner, 29K on the clock. Long gone now unfortunately...
