Blanking Plug For The Firewall

Recommended Posts

What are people using to blank off the hole in the bulkhead through which the wiring loom for the ECU is passed after converting to gti6 power? I'm thinking maybe some metal tape or something? But it gets warm, does it need insulation?

Would be interested to hear what people have done!

I re-routed my loom through a new hole behind the battery as the turbo sat right by this point where the loom came out and didn't want t melting like I had seem on some previously. I cut the top off a plastic container and siliconed it in place. It has lasted many years to date and you never see it. I siliconed it from the footwell side

I was going to suggest cutting a circle from some scrap steel and then Tigerseal/Silkaflex it in place. I'd put some sound deadening over it on the inside though, for obvious reasons.

Or carbon fibre affixed in the same way.

1.8 diesels have a blanking plug there as standard :)

Thats useful ^

For a little bit more strength to the bulkhead/servo area, iv welded a circular plate there. Then iv reused the seal onto the new loom so no engine fumes, water etc can get into the cabin.
