Saxo Vts Peoples Opinions?

Recommended Posts

hcmini1989

Ive recently bought one of these and think its a cracking little car .But what are other peoples opinions on these is there some reason why they are so cheap?.Because other cars in the catorgory clio`s feista`s etc etc are twice the price.I would admit maybe they are cheaply made but that just makes it more like a 205

Ive looked about and i can only find one reason for not owning one and that its the choice of the chav well it was because of the free insuarce.

I personaly think its abit more of a modern 205 and possibly one of the last REAL hot hatches because most of the newer stuff are like barges and come with to much stuff in to actually feel like your driving it .

Does anybody on here use one to compete in ? rallys trackdays etc? if so what do you think of them .

Get a good one and they're good fun to drive providing that you can get on with the pedal box (which I can't sadly). Plenty of bad ones out there though which will make a unhappy and expensive ownership proposition.

As for why they're cheap, I guess it's a combination of being French (so depreciates badly), being a 90's Citroen (and hence worth buttons), and Saxo's having an awful reputation thanks to all the Barry'd up VTR's out there (hence turning off some people that would have otherwise bought them)

106 GTi and Saxo VTS are pretty much the same car, but the badge and reputation means that one is much cheaper than the other. It's the same story with 306 GTi-6's and Xsara VTS's - the Xsara is technically the better car in all ways other than aesthetics, but is worth less than half what the equivalent 306 is

im more of a 106 fan myself (and not just because its a pug).

i wouldnt mind a mk1 saxo with half leather but all saxos are tainted with that chav stick, ive got 3 of them down my road with the biggest exhaust pipes ever and a endless supply of flashing lights under them

Thats the only problem i can find with them tbh the chavs love them.My boss has a 106 and its parked next to the saxo and tbh i think the 106 looks weedy compared to the saxo.Thats my personal opinion i think its the shape of the saxo lights wich make it look stockier. But underneith they are the same car.I think i know what you mean about the pedal box anthony being to close together?.They feel inside like they are smaller than a 205 thats my only quarral with it .And the 106 has the better of the 2 interiors.

I only paid £500 for it .It needs an axle rebuild but other than that its a new pin.The previous owner has spent a fortune on it.I cant help but sing its prazes as a great little driving car the only thing i find a problem is how light they are they dont feel to planted( i have never driven a tu powerd 205) .With my 205s a td and a mi powerd one they feel heavy and stuck to the road .So i cant comment on what a tu 205 is like compared to one of these ?

Cant say much about the VTS, but I just got shot of my one previous owner from new Saxo VTR. The old girl had done 150k miles, but the engine was sweet. It wasnt a bad little car, the lift off over steer was almost non existent, but maybe that was due to rear beam being shagged and the rear wheels having a really strange angle on them!! Just enough of a drivers car to keep you interested..

Was alot more sensible as an every day car than the 205, but I was very conscious of the 'saxo' image, even though the car was totally standard.

Being a short arse, I never had a problem with the pedal positions.

I think a VTR would make a cheap little track hack.

Mad.

Generally speaking, chavs moved on from saxo's a little while ago. I think they are a perfectly acceptable method of transport now.

I wouldn't worry about it anyway, the 106 gti/vts are good little cars. There are a few chavvy examples remaining. There was one on my works car park on Friday and the exaust could well have been a didgeridoo. lol sorry had a few to drink and didgeridoo is just a really funny word.

Good car's but as said I cannot get on with the seating and pedal position, Front chassis leg's and door hinge's tend to rust or fall off.

Compare to a 1.6 205 it would leave it for sure, look at the stock hatch for example

I bought the wife a Brand new black one in march 2003, awesome little car. Sold it December 2007 for 2500 quid. Mint as a Polo and 43 k on the clock.

The mother in law has a VTR, its a bag of crap.

Never been in a GTi or VTS, although when me and a mate had 106 rallyes we put a VTS lump in his, it was great!

I dare say I'd still have a phase 1 rallye as a daily driver if I could find a decent one!

I have found that despite being significantly younger than 205s, they are in far worse condition. Remember MA boxes are notoriously weak, as well as the shafts (i've even seen a few sheared completely in half!), rear beams are very very weak, engine mounts have usually all gone. Maybe i've just been looking at the boy racer'd ones but there are an awful lot of them, always with those same problems. Seems like they didn't age well (although saying that, the C2's are even worse!!)
