I picked this up in the TVR area on Pistonheads and thought I'd post it here just incase people aren't aware yet. It includes a detailed list of the changes coming into force...

P.S. Don't worry about the "pre-CATs", that is a TVR special!!

Bout time they tested engine mounts! All seems pretty decent for a change to be fair! All of those things make sense anyway!

My MOT guy was taking to be me about some of these changes last time I was in, personally I thought most of these things were covered anyway!!

"Inappropriate modifications or repairs - The wording on this is quite vague at the moment, but if a major component has been modified, and that modification/repair makes the vehicle dangerous or seriously weakens the original component, expect it to fail."

"Wiring - Any wiring (loomed or otherwise) that is damaged, or fitted in such a way that could cause damage to said wiring, or other systems will fail."

I agree with the idea behind these, but I guess this would be hard to define, and vary between testers, and a good excuse dodgy stations screw you over especially with a old or modified car.

Mad.

Largely sensible, but the Cat farce/scam perpetuated... and I thought we were supposed to be reducing CO2 emissions?!!

My thinking is that they all add up to a good excuse to raise the price of the test.

Also, are you telling me that every MOT tester knows which lights should and shouldnt light up on ignition on every car out there? What about kit cars and customised dashes etc? This country is poo...

by and large they are all sensible. and i would not worry about the cat rule. it will proberly be used like the exhaust excessivly noisey rule that testers can fail on currently(noone does).

and with the lights the tester will be looking to make sure the warning lights go out(id assume the systems the vehicle has will be listed on the vt40 like it currently does with the abs)

To be honest everything in that list is either things I assumed were already tested, or common sense things that should be tested.

Fuel lines could be a magnet to over zealous testers on the 205 --- now, where's my emery cloth??

Hmm one of those thing thats a good idea in theory, but will probably be a cluster*** when implemented. I've got a couple of unused wires hanging loose in engine bay with corroded ends - probably for something car isn't fitted with really a reason to fail? Engine warning light being on? Haven't got one, but if its just on because car needs a service is that really a reason to fail if everything else (emissions etc) is O.k.

Guess its going to be a case of wait and see ...

Steering locks, this worries me, what happens on rally cars?

The last point about all dashboard lights illuminating might get me on my honda. The sidelights bulb had never worked in my 3 years of owning it, but I don't see why I would want to dismantle my dash just to change 1 useless bulb?

The rest of them seem reasonable though
