I got some red engine paint from halfords, I seem to remember it being cheaper than the brake paint they sold. I must have had it for six years and done loads of brake parts with it! Any VHT paint should do the trick

So any high tempreture paint will be ok then? How hot will the brakes get? I used to get the discs glowing on my old escort td!

It depends how hard you drive, engine paint worked fine for me, but I suppose they sell more expensive stuff labelled caliper paint for a reason!

FROST have a wide selection of paints. I have used this paint and the colours are crisp, iv used the alu/red ones. It is chemical and heat resistant. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.

Spray 2 light coats then the third one needs to be thicker, the previous coats will get tacky which will help stop the thick coat run etc. The third coat being thick is what gives the finish the shine. Careful when you use it, dont put too much on. Might be best to test it on a panel or something.

95% prep 5% paint (or something) I used high temp engine lacquer, worked great. Although I used black, red is a bit tarty! Plus it will get dirty in secs.

Hammerite as per stu8v. I've also used the smooth variant for years with good results.

Smooth Red Hammerite has done the job for me! They were sandblasted then given 3 or 4 coats.

The better the paint the better the prep the longer it will last.

I have some red painted calipers not used on the road since they were painted in the awful hammerite, its colour has gone funny, its started to chip a bit and was painted well. They have just been dry stored away. That paint has not got the same quality as it use to have IME, couple of stone-chips and its starts to go. The good paint has got anti chip properties. It also looks as good as powder coating does after the amount of stuff iv painted with it.

Does depend how long you want it looking as good as when you did all the hard work of painting it in the first place.

Cheap and good stuff dont always go together, if you want cheap then hammerite it is.

Hammerite smooth for me - silver and gold mixed together to create the original (ish) zinc plated colour.
