What Would You Have

Recommended Posts

I know this is the wrong place, but what would you people have for a track car if you had a choice between a Mk3 Capri, prob with a Cossie V6, or a Vauxhall Chevette, with maybe a red top or again a cossie V6?

Oh, and no smart guys saying: 205!

Honestly, neither of those above, are they both not live rear axle?

If you want something RWD with a decent engine then what about a poor mans capri (Manta) with a redtop in it? Or otherwise a 3 series of some sort, E36 are cheap now.

Forgot to say, i have always wanted an E30, but jer309 from here, a very good friend of mine, bought one, so sort of want something differant.

Stu8V: Is that your garage? I like the Corrado in the background. ( and i will pretend i hate E30 M3s!)

So Mantas are independant rear suspension?

I figure if a RWD escort can handle, then surely a Crapi can handle, due to the amount of interchangeable parts?

O, and if 309s were RWD, this forum wouldnt exsist!

MX-5 with a turbo/supercharger conversion?

Cheaper than most of the options listed, a very capable chassis, and would run rings around the likes of a Capri on track.

Rather less manly than a Capri though I admit...

^ I was looking at these sometime ago, you can get one for about 3k it seems!

A supercharged one with 0.6 boost should be good fun!

Anthony, are you thinking of converting yours? :)

Whatever it is, rear wheel drive, stable platform, best dynamic suspension design you can get, so double wishbones all round if possible, and a diff.

Hence.

I was going to say turbo mx-5, as they could use a bit more go.

Westfield or similar kit car with 1600 engine on carbs / bodies, bags of fun, no need to have big power it's got plenty to get broadside wet or dry.

Whilst the thought has crossed my mind, what I'll likely do is chop it in next year for a Caterham 7 like I've always promised myself :)

The MX5 is a great choice, just a soft top is not preffered, im a picky sod!

Corolla is a great choice, but pricey, Alfa 75s have always intrested me though.

I know of a 3 door 309 base model in a scrappers, and i have an angle grinder.......

I've been looking at a replacement for my 205 track car recently. I am basically sold on a Clio Sport. There are only three main factors that affect my choice Price, Power and Weight, just about nothing else available that matches the Clio and it gets awesome handling reviews. Its basically the modern day rust free equivalent of a 205. Cars only a few years old can be had for a ~£2k, if its purely to be used as a track car and cosmetics isnt that important then buy a Cat D that needs a headlight or bumper of front wing and you can save even more money !

Have a look on Talk-Torque, Dixon has just got an MX5 and has a build thread on there.

As the price comes down on the S2000s I get tempted by one of those for some rwd fun, only thing that worries me is you don't see many being used as a track cars?

S2000 is my next car when I'm bored of the e30, with a supercharger kit from the US of course ;)

Aren't these reworked Audis?

A friend is thinking of getting a S2000 (initially he was thinking of an ITR), albeit it won't be a dedicated track car but a fun/toy.

Got to be a 3 series. Loads of weight to be binned which would make even a 325i pretty capable. Obviously aftermarket parts are an issue as they cost a fair few quid. But sheddy BMWs bloody rock!

V8 the Capri, stick a Trevor & Tracy sticker across the windscreen and go sideways.............................everywhere :D
