Bottom Arm Refitting?

Recommended Posts

smithy

My bottom arms are currently off the car waiting refitting.

Whats the general opinion regarding tightening up the bolts on subframe?

Is it a case of put them on and do up bolts or do people put them on and jack up so in the normal position they would be in if on the ground and then do them up?

You really need the arm to be in its usual sitting position before tightening the bolts, otherwise you unduely stress the bushes and they will fail prematurely. Easiest way is to tighten the bolts with the car on the ground and having been bounced a few times to settle it, but if you know the angle that the arm sits at then you can jack it in position and tighten it with the car still in the air.

I always lower the car on some car ramps so its in the parish of where it sits and I can still get under it :)

I leave the car on stands, use trolley jack under lower arm/hub to compress the spring/arm to normal position then tighten the bolts. Much easier than struggling with the car on the floor, especially with a lowered 205.
