New Engine Loom For 1900 8 Valve, Diy Or Can I Buy Them?

Recommended Posts

Morning All

the stripping process continues, and i'm noticing the loom has really really seen better days, has been messed around with, plus im going to be spending money on the car, so would rather have the electrics perfect, just seems logical.

Ive done some basic wiring before, but nothing major, i have several friends who can help, but im abit daunted by the job at this stage. Here are my questions:

1) Is there a DIY engine loom thread/build guide by someone? for example, stating grades, thickness' etc etc or wires?

2) is there someone out there that has a new/made 205 gti 1900 8 valve loom I can buy?

Regards

John

Not that I know of on both.

The hardest part is finding all of the OE terminals, Old plugs can be used and the loom modded to ditch the horrid brown multiplug under the AFM,

A new loom would cost allot due to the time involved in it, but quite easy (Well for me)

I made my own Mi loom, and prior to that my wiring experience amounted to a few stints of poor soldering. If you are copying an existing loom it's really not difficult, just time consuming. You need to be patient and methodical. Learning to crimp terminals doesn't take much practise, and don't be put off by anyone who tells you that the basic ratchet crimpers are no good and that you need a proper £200 tool. You don't even need to solder if you use hot glue butt splices!

Here's some of my topics that may help

Main loom topic

A bit about plugs

If you do an advanced search, put in the word 'loom', tick 'search titles only' and then my name in the author section, it'll show you a whole bunch of my topics from around the time I was building my loom and asking lots of questions.

P.S. my main loom topic doesn't start to get interesting until page 4, so stick with it ;)
