Tu 1.4 Clutch Arm Pin

Managed to get the box off the 306 this afternoon, after working my way round previous bodged repairs and rusty/stubborn balljoints/TRE's & shafts!

 

Had a quick glance over the box as it's off, and I fancy changing the little plastic bushes on release arm shaft. Heard & read some stories of these going and causing all sorts of issues and they're pennies from Pug. Only thing is the pin holding the arm on is rusted in. Won't budge with several twats with lump hammer and appropriately sized drift/punch.

 

I suppose the only options left are drill out the pin, cut off the arm shaft and fit a decent 2nd hand item or just leave it.

 

Any advice?

I think those pins are heat pressed in so it's going to be an absolute b*stard to remove

You get good ones and you get bad ones. I've sucessfully drilled one out and still managed to use the original arm, so i'm sure you can.

Ive been in this situation so will mention a couple of things.

 

Dont make the mistake I did, and punch it in and try to get it out the other side. It is too long to come out from the back.

 

I was left with a pin half out that I then couldnt get back through again.

 

What I had to do was drill in down through the pin about 15mm, thread a screw in and then use that to get a grip and pull back through. I then could grip the pin itself and pull it out.

 

Peugeot do replacement pin with spring clip for £3.02 inc the VAT and it is a special order item so will take a couple of working days.

 

They are tight, but plenty of GT85 or the likes and a big pair of grips and you shouldn't have a problem.

I'm also suprised you got the box off without removing the arm pin and twisting the shaft. I forgot all about the pin until every bolt was off and the box was free, no matter how much I heaved on it with a 3 foot bar I couldnt wiggle it off. I was afraid I would damage something so resorted to removing the pin. I love hindsight.

very easy, its a push clutch so the arm does not hinder the gearbox's removal.

 

its only the BE pull clutch you need to remove the pin to get the box off.

It was a GTi6 gearbox, so that'l be why :lol:

I've given it plenty of smacks with drift and hammer after soaking in PlusGas and it won't budge one bit. So, I think i'm going with the drill out option. Got some decent (Dormer) bits, not the chocolate B&Q jobs, and will give it a go tomorrow night probably.

Box was easier than I thought TBH. I've experienced that though with the VTS box. Took me ages to figure out why the bastard wouldn't split from the engine..... :blush:

one of my few experiences with the MA box was helping a mate sort his 1.5 D 106 out, pin just would not budge so I let him have a go and he picked up a bigger hammer....

 

the sound changed and I heard a "bollocks" cracked the casing! so drilling/angle grinding is a wise option...

angle grind the arm off and then get fork out so you can drive pin out on bench,very easy to bugger the casing up trying to beat it when still fitted as WP said.

 

I have a spare MA arm that has been drilled and tapped to use a M8 capscrew instead might even have the original fork somewhere,you can have it for postage costs mate.

just to update i do have the fork still which has never been fitted,the arm is also virtually new so all you would need is new bushes. you could then just angle grind straight through fork and remove.
