Alternative Electric Window Motors

Recommended Posts

One of the things that pisses me off about my 205 is the piss poor electric windows, they are quite pathetic to watch atempting to go up and down. Obvioulsy getting hold of decent condition original ones is getting harder and harder. I was wondering therefore how hard it would be to adapt one of of a 106/306 to work. I reckon the space it has inside the door would be comparible to a 106 so i guess its a case of working out the lifting mechnism and how it fits.

This is in a similar vein of replacing the wiper motors with newer 106 ones

I've looked at pics of 106 motors on ebay but can really picture how they work (unless there's additional brackety not being included in the pics)

Anyone able to shed any light?

Cheers

The 306 ones are quite different and use a poxy plastic clip affair to a hole in the glass that often busts.

However on the 205 ones have you tried cleaning out the fixed runners of all crud and re greasing with some decent silicone grease, I reckon this would help as the 205 mech relies on sliding in the fixed metal runners.

Hi,

my 1.6 was fitted with these. SPAL UK Electric window kits They lasted for ages (8 years) but I replaced them with the heavier duty motors specified on the site. Also meant as mine was originally manual winders , I could use those mechanisms rather than the ones with the motor built in. Small point but it may boil down to availability in some circumstances.

regards

Stripping some doors soon, if you need motors to play with.

The little white plastic "wheels" on the ends of the mech that slide in the metal channels often gunge up - they should turn freely. Clean these and re-grease and you should see a significant improvement,
