Displaced Oil Seal

Recommended Posts

any ideas what may cause an oil seal to be pushed out of the housing[cam seal out touching the cam sprocket!!!!]??tried a rebuilt engine out on the 3 counties stages yesterday and it pushed the seal out on the first stage [1600 8v]

my thoughts are either breather system [though same as last engine which did 18 rallies with no problems or oil pump-stripped /checked 2 pumps at rebuild-one had longer/stronger spring fitted but was best unit so used it [so called group a?]

would this cause stupidly high pressure on a new engine?-warmed it up before the stage start so not thrashed from cold

help!!!

Pugs in Pieces

have seen the rocker cover seal blow out from a blocked breather system. bit severe to push the seal out from there though, thats alot of oil pressure.

Check breather hose routing (seems like something is mixed , i.e. connected the wrong way round ..) , check for blockage , and gas blow by (run the engine and open up the oil filler tower - you'll be able to feel excessive gas/pressure coming out ..) ... and check the oil level on the dipstick (do not fill it up to the maxi mark !)

the breathers are the same ones that were on the old engine and routed ok-seems to be a problem with displaced cam seals on modified 8valve rally engines as ab motorsport sell a cam seal retaining plate-may have to invest--------
