Fuel Pump

Recommended Posts

Right I think the pump in my car is fubar. it has power to it (the tester shows a current!) but nothing from the pump.

However it has been mentioned that the phase 1's had a different pump to some others, therefore will a ph1.5 fit mine?

This is the problem with having zero time to play, I'm trying to get the car running in the spare 60mins I tend to have over the weekends.

Last question, how do I test the pump in the car at the moment to make sure it IS dead.

Ta.

Two different types of plug, but you can chop it off and solder it together

Only the later phase 2 pumps are different, the connector and pick up is different.

From memory it should prime when you first switch the ignition on. (remove the feed into the injection rail, place in a suitable container, on a cold engine ideally, then switch ignition on.)

Failing that still using a suitable container plus friend crank the engine over briefly with the same pipe disconnected.

This will rule out any problems, blockages up to the fuel rail. (Assuming it comes out at more than a trickle!!)

(When disconnecting the fuel line please be aware that there could be fuel pressure present and therefore could a ) ignite on a hot engine or b ) hurt like hell when it sprays into your eye!!)
