Peugeot 306 Wiper Problem

Recommended Posts

Alan_M

Managed to get myself a 306 1.4 for free the other day. Needs a bit of work which is no problem for me but one issue is the wipers.

The wipers don't park on their own, needing the stalk pushed to 'OFF' to stop them. I thought it was the motor, so stripped it, cleaned it up, regreased, boxed it back up and tested. All OK. Figured then it must be the stalk or relay. So went hunting....

The fishy thing is the stalk has 'Auto' on it, yet no rain sensor on windshield. Took the roof light unit out today, and hey presto, I find what I think is the sensor connector (long black connector, about 8 way?). Seemingly, someones had a new windshield fitted in the past but forgot about the sensor. There are no purple relays, 2 black ones to the left on a set of 4 connectors, no relays in the other 2. Above the fuses, a brown, then space, orange and black. Immediately to the left of the fuses, 2 green relays.

My question is how easy is it to switch back to normal wipers, i.e. no AUTO on the stalk. Or, considering I have a 206 sensor and rear view mirror (hopefully they'll fit), is it important to have the part of the windshield where the sensor sticks to blacked out?

I have a 306 auto wiper sensor with wiring if you want one.

Has the 306 screen got the plastic clip for the sensor to attach to on the screen?

If it has then the main thing you need to make sure you swap over is the two rubber oblongs which sit in the sensor so it works.

My 306 didn't work when I got it but its had a screen & they missed one of these when changing it, once I had a pair, the auto system works fine.
