Vtr Into Xud7T

My 1.8td overheated due to a pierced rad i have now replaced rad but its a ticking time bomb as its smoking fairly bad and using water; it was fautless before.

I had looked at 1.9td+box as it would be a straight swap i believe bar intercooler clearance??? But i really dislike diesels especially the 1.8td they have so much lag and not much torque either.

So i have a 40k miles 1.6 vtr and box in storage, any idea whats involved regarding subframes and driveshafts, and engine mounts?? Will they bolt straight in to existing shell mounts???

From what i have read gear linkages and and actual lever are needed and the linkage rods I assume.

The fueling and wiring is self explanatory just not sure on the actual mechanicals as I have always had gti's and swapped those etc. No idea about tu based 205's!

You'll need to move the gear linkage L brakcet mount on the sub frame to the TU position, and as you said you'll need a TU gear lever and rods.

O and yes it will will bolt straight onto the mounts.

Ace! thats not to bad on for linkages then and the bolt in. Anyone got any idea on shafts and exhausts? Never seen a 205 tu downpipe i will have a search on the forum.

I have the saxo downpipe that finishes just under the back of the engine. Is there a bendy section that goes to where a normal xu downpipe would join the exhaust or is it all different? I'm wondering if i can use the exisiting turbo diesel exhaust as its a decent diameter and just fab up a downpipe.

you will need the top engine mount off a 1990> 205 with a tu engine and also the gearbox mount off the same car.

also water pipes off tu engine 205

and driveshafts off a tu 205

Also you'll need to fit a TU lower rear cast housing that takes the bottom engine mount and the long drive shaft intermediate bearing.

Get one from a TU 205 or I recently found one in a TU 206 that fitted mine perfectly, but had a bushed "lump" on the bottom that just unbolts

You may need to modify the throttle cable length, even the one from my TU 205 didn't have enough movement and is slightly too long, but you can carefully tweek it.

Clutch cable should fit fine but you'll need the gearbox mounting plate that bolts to the top of the gearbox on a 205 MA box as my VTR mount didn't line up.

I also needed a dual vehicle speed sensor (VSS) which gives both mechanical and electronic speedo readings (mech for the 205 dash and elec for the VTR ecu).

Am eventually going to get some pics up of my conversion
