Replacement Exhaust Heat Shields

Recommended Posts

Tom Fenton

These exhaust heat shields are commonly buggered, does anyone know if they are still available, and a cost? I can't access servicebox at the moment.

I am taking about the important one that protects the fuel tank, and also the one that is usually AWOL above the rear box shielding the boot floor.

If they are daft from Peugeot I'm thinking of making some, maybe stainless instead of alu.

Had a quick nose on service box and all the heat shields are NFP Tom so finding some decent 2nd hand items or making some seems the only options. You may get lucky and find a dealer has one on the shelf but chances are slim.

Is there another picture of them, that one doesn't show the two I am thinking of? Thanks.

Ah now that shows the rear most one, the 1st picture shows the bracket for the tank one. I wonder if the tank one is in a fuel tank diagram? Looks like they are all NFP though, I will have to look into making some I think.

Chromed!

I have a few spares as i've known they're NLA for a while so makes sense keeping them off breakers.

The rear box one is quite commonly missing and hence i feel probably just isn't really needed tbh, personal preference i guess. Some fancy new ones would be good too though! :)

If you saw my car Baz you would understand why it going to have that and not have some dirty ones fitted, its not some standard rusty looking chav wagon with wheels the same colour as the tires

The exhaust manifold and system will be cam coated too ^_^

I was told that all plastics cant be chrome plated as it needs a lot more heat to cure, surely aluminum is strong enough to cope with this extra heat ? Look at some bikes that have been chrome plated, mines an aluminum frame and is chrome plated

I think i have the rear one which is steel and the big one is the aluminum one, i thought the two i have were for the undercarriage, been a while since i removed them from the car

I'll have a word with my platers and if not then ill get the bigger one plated some other way if possible.

I could be interested in the bigger one in stainless steel. What grade of stainless were you thinking of using ?

Yeah sure, i knew that when Tom replied.

Writing always lacks that personal touch compared to what talking does.

I don't have the tank heatshield on my 205. Am I right in saying that it fixes to the tank strap or does it have seperate fixings? I feel I should get one as it's my turbo and the exhaust probably gets quite hot.

The tank heat shield is the important one IMO.

It attaches on the same fixings as the tank strap, but you don't need the strap fitted. The heatshield goes on one of the centre exhaust hanger studs at the front, and the bracket that goes behind the beam and attaches to the forward boot floor with a M6 nut onto a welded stud at the rear.

In fact this picture shows it reasonably well.

Cheers Tom. I'll have a look at my old tank strap to see if the rear bracket is still fixed to it.

Are you sure? Every aluminium frame I've come across has been polished and lacquered.

I was told that my 205 1.9 centre caps cant be shiny chrome plated the same as the alloys due to the amount of heat, it would melt them.

That sounds a better idea tbh, ill get some of that high temp lacquer on after getting it's been polished.

As for the bike, not certain but iv had it since 2003 and looks as clean as it did when new, the overall surface has not been tarnished and had a BMX the same

Cheers :)
