Whats It Worth

Pugs in Pieces

Im not sure if anybody has seen some of the recent practical classics magazines? they have a 205 1.9 gti think it is one of the editors cars, they are claiming it is the earliest 1.9 gti registered that is left, registered 02 feb 87 i think, certainly feb 87. i have come across a 1 owner winchester grey 1.9 gti, full history, 90k and its totally original registered 11th jan 1987.

i can pick the car up with no tax or test for a good price, what would we think this would be worth?

it has the orig phillips radio working, orig bill of sale, every job done by peugeot garage, its a proper timewarp car.

just an amazing find tbh

The one i think you "may" be thinking of is owned by John Simester? (sp) - i believe hes part of a magazine company and it would be a D plate graphite grey 1.9. (phase 1). Id find it hard to put a price without tax and test. It does look great in the magazines if its the one im thinking of.

its not the one from the magazine, its even better than that, and its definatly winchester grey not graphite, it would appear most phase 1 that are grey are winchester and not graphite. motf paint code.

Winchester was only a 309 color and never on a 205, would you say it's dark or light grey?

Yes, John Simester's car. Pretty damn sure it's graphite.

It's worth whatever someone will pay for it, if you think it's a good price, buy it!

Winchester grey is not a dark grey... Graphite grey is a very dark grey.

The 205 Turbo 16 road going version is winchester grey.

the paint code on the car matches with winchester grey on the paint code list on this forum. i have a graphite grey car already and its a different colour to that, i have not had the cars side by side to check, the "winchester" one is miles away at the moment so i was guessing that it was darker just from memory. its darker than the gutmann and as far as i know thats graphite grey, i got the auto bonnet for it from another graphite grey car and its a perfect match to the rest of the gutmann paint. the original invoice and logbook both state winchester grey too.

myself and another major 205 enthusiast both thought it was graphite until we saw the logbook and invoice etc.

odd.

edit. just found a picture of a 305 gt in winchester grey, and i would say it is the same colour as the gutmann wich is random, the other one must be graphite with a typo on the logbook and invoice as its defiantly darker then that colour i think.

odd thing is i must have managed to pick up a bonnet off a winchester grey 205 gti for the gutmann, it was original paint on the car too. gutmann has been resprayed.

is there more than one shade of graphite?

what colour is this car?

Hey if it says winchester grey, its wichester grey. I dont know much about pug dealers back in the day but its not to far fetched to believe if a customer with serious dollar (or even the dealer himself) could have asked for that colour. Also its worth considering at such an early stage of production they could still have been playing with the colour range as the demos left the plant.

Strange one. Could be as above, might be a one off request or something. In all my anorak days i havn't heard of winchester. The above colour looks somewhere in between steel and graphite, doesnt it. I'd be interested in any more info you acquire on this one.

Quite a claim saying it's the oldest 1.9 around. I'll ask my dad to check his D reg 1.9 and see when that was registered, which is also still up for sale ;)

IIRC Batfink's is older.

Mine's a bit younger at 30/03/87, i think the oldest i've owned was D459AFL, 30/01/87, but it was crashed before i bought it, most of it's bits went into the bare shell rebuild of F791TVC.

I had one a few years ago, 13/3/87, sadly someone had barried it before I got it and turned it from what was probably a nice graphite 1900 into a barry spec Purple monstrosity with St Tropez valances and Izuzu bonnet vent :(

Having said that it sold on for a good profit after I repaired the "blown head gasket" by fitting a new top hose..... :)
