Re Angled Gti6 Manifold?

Recommended Posts

RICH530I

Hello I'm just after a little advice. I'm putting the 6 engine in my 205 and was looking into modifying my manifold I am a machinist/welder by trade and have accsess to machines to have a go at this. I was just wondering if anyone knows what the procedure is for doing this and the angle to machine the manifold?

Rich ;-)

people know it but wont share it mate, it seems its a big money secret.

i'll be doing mine by trial and error.

cut a wedge out of the pipework near to the flange and then fit it and bend it until its at the right angle then weld it back up-thats the plan.

Can you not machine the flange face to the correct angle?

I would band saw the flange off, re-angle the pipes then re-weld, simples..

I have a second hand one and a second hand modified one and its been cut all the way through about 2mm from the lips edge where the head end of it is. If you put the manifold on a flat surface you will see the outlet hole almost facing directly upwards then try to machine the cut edges till that exit hole is facing between 67.5 & 58 degrees on

HERE. I dont have a measuring tool to get the correct angle, ill sort a picture out for you. Then all you need to do is properly weld it, mine one has quite high welds which i think means they have used too much wire speed. I think slower wire speed with a higher power setting would have worked better, but does depend on your welder. Or you could do it at 67.5 degrees then spot welt it and test it in the car. Then there is the normal 205 build quality with different tolerances. It does look to me like 58 degrees tbh, this might be the best call as you can always have the decat pipe bend more to cope with the exhaust.

Hope this helps :)

Miles on here does exchange items for a very good price. I bought mine off him and the quality was excellent. For all the trouble you would get doing your own, buying one would be well worth it. :D

Agreed, send it to Miles. Instead of putting the engine in & out and cutting. With his manifold you fit it and the engine goes straight in.

To much pissing about above! See Miles, his are done on a jig by the only bloke I would use to build me an exhaust ( and have used for the last 12 years) !

Edit: And the last thing you want after fitting it is for a weld to crack as they are fun to change in situ - trust me

Thing that puts me off buying one already re angled, is you then also have to have the downpipe re angled. If I am going to get someone out to reangle my downpipe to match, They may aswell reangle both. Maybe I am missing something. Anyone got a pic of Miles' ones to see the quality?

Or have a look on my Ebay shop (I would post one up but off to work in a couple of mins), I offer the manifolds and D/P with different options unlike the old Mi manifolds which the D/P was always left as a unknown and I think a few people ended up with low slung ones because of this.

If the option is there to have a GTi6 manifold reangled to suit the standard 205 downpipe angle, I will take one.

You HAVE to reangle both mate. Again miles sells both

Not a hope in the world, The manifold is at least twice as long as the 205 one and hence why most of the D/P gets chopped off

I'm using a decat 306 pipe for the lambda fixing. I might have to get it re-angled but im sure thats it, you can get them from the 306 GTI6 forum at some point.

The 306 don;t fit well at all, another bodge in my eye's as they do not have the kink around the gear stick and makes the rest of the system go out of alineament

I see what you are saying Miles, however i just dont have the cash to buy/get one made. I'll have to make it work somehow. When i had an MI16 and had one of those modified exhausts, 4-2-1 type, the end was almost in the same area/position as the GTI6 one does from looking at the ebay pictures of yours, not had any problems with the gear rods etc. If i have to get a hammer then so be it

It will be the only bodge on the car and if needs be will be sorted in due coarse by either buying a suitable pieces of pipe then weld the fixing ends onto it myself.

Miles,

Do you make a system that mates to your manifold? My car sounds like a chav mobile!

Some pics would be really good. Other people have said about a wedge plate does this work??? I wold like to have a go at this myself as the car is a bit of a hobby car and it would be more of an achievement if I can do as much as possible myself on it.

Cheers for all the comments ;-)
