New Gti New Problems Haha

The new 19 gti ive got has only done 74k and engine is strong however the oil pressure is not, the oil pressure warning light came on the other day and i nearly had a heart attack but oil pressure reading wasnt low so just a faulty pressure switch so ive got one to fit, however the oil pressure is not a patch on my old engine.

When cold the oil pressure is about halfway on daily use and tonight was a little higher after standing over a full day and went to about 65% although the car idles high on first start (about 1200) until it settles so hard to get proper reading without blipping throttle to make it lower revs for a moment.

Daily use car sits at around halfway oil pressure when cold, and when hot it will achieve around the 2nd white mark (maybe just a tad under). My old gti used to be about 75% cold and 50% hot so im concerned that the engine could need work and with it seeming fine other than this i would rather do it now that let it damage engine as it does not smoke one bit even on start up.

Ive changed the oil and used mobil 10 40 extra semi and put a new filter on but still the same really so was after suggestions as i want the car mint mechanically

cheers mick

The gauge is only a guide if you are worried it is low I would get it tested properly, could be a dodgy sender.

Also might be worth checking condition of brown multi plug corrosion is common on terminals so could cause false reading.

cheers bud, where abouts is the multi plug located, its been a while since i messed with 205's so a little rusty (the gauge never flickers thou i must say always keeps a level needle reading, and i hope its not over reading as its new shells and oil pump time if it is, ill do the shells myself if there easy to get at, is it literally a sump off only job to do them or is further access required

cheers mick

The multi plug is below dizzy,if you put brown multiug in search loads of info comes up.

Mine was fooked so I made up new loom with fresh cable and spade connectors and soldered it on to main engine harness.

The sump needs to come off as does spacer plate if fitted, you also need to take oil pump off to gain access, personally I think better to do out of car as with my luck I would disturb rear crank seal and end up having to have box off anyway.

Recently rebuilt my xu9 piece of piss on a stand in garage.

thanks for help m8, i think ill do it with engine in situe and just do one shell at a time to make sure its ok, i was going to replace oil pump but just seen how much they are :o ,is it actually worth while once the pump is out fitting a uprated pressure spring? i may just take pump out and get the father to strip and clean it all out and rebuild it, Hes from the good old days where nothing was replaced all repaired so loves the challenge now and then and did plenty of these in the day

Pugs in Pieces

i fit the 6 bar spring into every rebuilt engine i do now, does seem to keep the oil pressure up alot more, even when hot, the brown multi plug does have the connections for the gauges etc but more often than not the gauges wont work at all when the connections are bad, it certainly will need a clean though if it has not been done yet, this could sort the gauge or try another sender unit to see if its reading right, i know of plenty 1.6s and 1.9s that have oil pressure either the same or lower than yours and they carry on day to day etc.

Did the shells and oil pressure was brilliant again with new spring, it was pants again last nite though after a long day of stop start driving so im hoping the gauge just get lazy whens it being used all day and looking to buy another. How much do the senders cost usually? Ill fire her up in about 15 mins time as i said id drop me pops off at pub and see how gauge is again. Has been 75% every cold start until yesterday so moment of truth

I used the xu10 uprated spring, got the part number off a search on here for it. The oil pressure was good again lastnite so i think its a lazy gauge to be fair although im lucky to be alive anyway as last night the throttle cable snapped on me whilst i was pulling out a junction and an audi was coming over the roundabout at excess of 80mph (cabby so has the handling of a river boat) and when i floored it to get out the way cable went :o ,

i have no idea how me and my 205 are not in group b heaven right now
