How Do You Service A Diesel?

Recommended Posts

TaffyTim

The girlfriend has a golf diesel which has done 40k and needs a service.

What do these engines need apart from oil and filters?

Also how will the computer then know we've done it, will there be a way to stop it from reminding us that a service needs doing?

There will be a way of resetting the service indicator (on my 207 it was using one of the stalks). If there's a Haynes manual for the car, then it will say in there how to do it.

Is it a PD engine?

If it is, make sure you use specific PD oil for it. The easiest way to tell if it is or not - lift the plastic engine cover - if you CAN'T see the injectors, it's a PD, as they will be under the rocker cover inside the head.

That's why you must use PD oil, as other oils attack the wiring going to the injectors.

Also worth filling up your fuel filter with one of these http://www.forteuk.co.uk/product.php?id=51/Advanced_Formula_Diesel_Treatment . We do this on every diesel service we do at work. Not only does it help with bleeding the system quicker, but it helps keep the EGR valve and injectors clean as well
