205 Gti Running Problem

My 205 gti starts first turn of the key in the morning,it then cuts out and wont start again,plugs,dizzy and rotor arm changed but no good,what else could it be

so it starts and cuts out straight away does it ever run or is it just start up cut out and thats it?

 

have you checked the basics like fuel and spark??????????

Yes done the basics,fuel spark,changed leads,cap,rotor,coil,still the same

has it got spark and fuel when it does not start??

 

if so i would suspect either air leak or AFM fault.

doubt its an air leak tbh, i guess it starts up, runs for a while on cold start then cuts out? or does it cut out straight away?

Yes it starts right away,takes revs but take your foot off and it cuts out,I can restart it but it behaves the same,thanks for your help

you not got any other friends nearby with a gti to do some part swapping one day? i would try swapping likes of airflow meter etc and see what cures it

Not idling from cold is very common, and is often caused by a combination of things. A search will bring up pages of threads with similar issues.

Thanks,I did that and got some sucess,it appears the butterfly wing in the AFM is sticking open,it caused the sump to fill with petrol,now all drained and replacement plugs and AFM fitted and it is running,it a bit rough on low revs but goes great at higher revs,thanks all for your help
