Switch At Rear Of Engine

changing an old 180a 1600 engine for a newer b6e 1600. have a switch next to the dipstick in the block on 180 but the hole is plugged on the b6e-what is it and do i need it??oil temp?tho that is on the rear of sump is nt it?

It's an oil level probe. It was only fitted to early engines and was wired up to show the oil level on one of the gauges for a few seconds when you turned the ignition on.

 

It's not needed, and later cars don't have the wiring for it.
