skinner2k3 3 Posted June 16, 2011 Well, I sourced a 24mm 106 rear ARB and some 306 end plates, fitted them with a headbolt spacer to centralise the bar in the splines and it lasted........ ......2 laps of Keevil airfield Started with one click with every direction change and progressed to two. That became very irritating. I am hoping only one end is now fooked so can be welded up leaving more spline to engage in the other end plate.
j_turnell 134 3 Cars Posted June 16, 2011 You must have had a dodgy end plate, happened to me, changed it and its been fine, well over a year now running this setup without any issues.
Strictly_Derv 34 Posted June 16, 2011 Hoping to do this soon, but as it's just a road car thats not track driven it should last abit longer
skinner2k3 3 Posted June 16, 2011 I will take the end plates off and have a look. I am starting to doubt I used the right end plates actually, I took them off a late 306 turbo diesel. Correct ones? Hopefully the end plates are softer than the bar and will a new pair will solve the problem. Still might weld one end and use a bit more spline the other though. welshpug 1,646 Posted June 16, 2011 all 306 ones are the same, different left to right though
skinner2k3 3 Posted June 16, 2011 Oh good, not made a complete school boy error then. Are they as different left to right as the std 205? IE it would not go together?
Anthony 1,002 Posted June 16, 2011 Are they as different left to right as the std 205? IE it would not go together? Correct - different size splines at each end. If you had it the wrong way around, one end wouldn't go on, and the other would be very loose and slip on the splines.
skinner2k3 3 Posted June 16, 2011 Good, I was worrying I was about to look like a muppet
skinner2k3 3 Posted June 19, 2011 Just removed the bar, the bar's splines are fine. As hoped just one end plate is damaged which will be welded. Hopefully that should do it.
