Injectors, Radiator, Afm Questions

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Have a few questions regarding an imminent engine swap for my 1.6, on which the big ends have gone. I've got a bare D6B - block & head only, not even a flywheel (which should actually be a good thing, with the 1.6 being a kilo lighter, right?).

My questions are:

1) Will the lack of oil cooler cause problems - what could it lead to?

2) Would the 1.6 injectors be up to the job of fuelling the engine, or should I source some 1.9ers?

3) I've got a CTI AFM - should I leave it on the shelf and use the 1.6 AFM with the 1.9 engine?

4) Is the 1.6 rad the same as a 1.9er?

5) Will my 1.6 exhaust manifold fit the 1.9 engine?

It's booked in on Monday for the swap, can't wait to get it back on the road - but I suppose there may be an issue or two - new cambelt kit and water pump & oil filter ordered. Any suggestions please?

1. no oil cooler will be fine if its just a road car.

2. source some yellow 1.9 injectors.

3. source a 1.9 afm along with a 1.9 ecu as well.

4. yes it is.

5.yes it will.

i'd also change the fuel filter while the engine is out, it makes life a little easier.

You can use the 1.6 injectors, AFM and ECU as a matched set and it seems to fuel just fine on a standard 1.9 engine, having done it a couple of times in the past.

Thanks for the recommendations, fuel filter next on the list. Good to hear re: the exhaust & rad.

I would get a Peugeot supplied manifold to downpipe gasket kit to go on there :)

also if the condition of the engine mounts is unknown I'd be inclined to get some.

OK, I'll forget about the CTi AFM. And due to recently imposed 205 Expenditure Upgrade Cutbacks, will give the 1.6 injectors a trial as you mention, before I go ahead sourcing some 1.9ers.

Any other gaskets I might need? Is there one on the distributor, for example? Thanks for the reminder BTW. Oh, and the engine mounts, is this as important as a new cambelt kit & w.pump, or can I hold off for a bit?

inlet and exhaust manifold gaskets would be a idea. i usually take the inlet manifold off when i take an 8v engine out so it will need to be replaced if the garage take it off. exhaust manifold gaskets have usually had it as well. would be wise to get some.
