Couple Of Odd Light Problems

Recommended Posts

allye

So the rallye is pretty much ready for the mot and the road for the first time in 7 months, just a couple of problems left to resolve.

1. No side lights (not checked if it is bizarrely both bulb failures yet) but head lights and full beam fine.

2. Only one rear light working on headlights (only n/s working) off side not getting power, earth is fine!? Also indecators all work.

Any ideas before I blindly dive into it trying to fix the problems next week?

Thanks, Ali. :)

Assuming it's not a simple bulb failure, have a good look at the connectors where they go into the back of the light housings, as they're unsealed and corrosion prone, usually resulting in them playing silly buggers when you reconnect them after having unplugged them for whatever reason. Usually a quick squirt of WD40 and plugging them in and out a few times solves the problem and they work fine again there after.

sidelights and tailights are fused left to right usually, so if the n/s/r has no power its probably the fuse thats gone. this will probably sort the n/s/f sidelight and the o/s/f sidelight will probably be a bulb.

So this is ongoing :angry: I'v been poking about with the multimeter for hours now and this is the result;

power coming out of the stalk fine and going into the fuse box fine, how ever no power for the side lights is coming out of the fuse box (wire numbers 55/56 at the rear of the fuse box) I'v swapped fuses and nothing.

Some how I managed to get them working breifly last night but now they have stopped which points towards a poor connection somewhere. Is my fuse box buggered!?

Not sure if its connected but my rear lights are still playing silly buggers, brake and indecators work fine but when I put on head lights (even side lights) both bulbs light up on the o/f :wacko: and nothing on the n/s.

This really is all that stopping MOTing!!!

Cheers
