Engine Bay Wires & Starting Problem ?

Recommended Posts

davidc

We've just managed to get our 1.9 GTi running at long last after a bit of a long term project !!

It started & ran fine but now, when you try to start it, all the dash/ignition lights come on but as soon as you try to start it, it goes completely dead.......any ideas ?

Also, see pics below of some wires we dont know where they go or what they are for ??? There is a connector with a broken wire & there is a wire running at the back of the block under the exhaust manifold.....

Any helpgreatly appreciated !!

Thanks,

David

The connector I believe was meant to be for timing or something. Completely useless unless you have the Peugeot system it was designed for. No need for it :)

Don't worry about the 3 pin, just a pug diagnostic socket afaik, the wire running round the back of the block is oil temp, often break, due to the heat off the manifold.

wires as above

starting issue sounds like either dodgy starter, battery or poor connection in the wiring to starter.

Thanks for all the help.

Car is starting & running fine now but.......we cant get the coolong fan to come on at all. The temperature sender in the side of the radiator is plugged in & we have tested the fan & it works fine but as the temperature goes up the fan doesn't come on ??

We've also found this multi-plug (below) that comes from the sender on the side of the radiator, any ideas on what it is for ? Its got a green, blue & white wires going to it ?

That looks like the fan test plug use it to test both speeds of fan.

Link middle connector to the other ones in turn you should get half speed with one and full with other.

If you do then new temp switch is needed.
