Suppliers For Engine Mounts

Does anyone know a good supplier for the upper engine mount and gearbox mount that are NOT group N but are still firm enough to be useful?

My local GSF say they can't get them even though they are on their website and I don't really want to order some online in case they turn up and are soft as jelly.

They are still listed on servicebox but they cost about £70!

Neat Autos? They still listed them last time I looked, but no idea if they're an per the OE ones or the useless lumps of jelly I'm afraid.

the last gearbox mount I got from Neat was a Sasic item, seems fine, same brand that gsf used to do iirc.

nothing wrong with £70 at Peugeot for a set of mounts in my mind given how long they last...

Thanks for that, these are for Ian's (Maturin23's) car so I'll see what he wants to do.

I think £70 is a bit steep given that Stew Baker sells the whole set (3 mounts and 2 buffers) in group N spec for about £94, his setup and tooling costs must be much higher than Peugeot's given the economies of scale they enjoy. The whole lot from Peugeot is more than twice Stew's price at about £200 although admittedly you have to buy the lower engine mount/torque reaction bush complete with (and already pressed into) the alloy housing.

I see what you mean, maybe Stew should charge more

regarding the lower mount, the diesel 205 used the same bush, which IS listed separately :) so that's £110 odd with discount inc the buffers.

I believe the 306 and 406 top mountings are not simply rubber bushes but hydraulic dampers as well, though unsure how they work or whether that applies to the o.e 205 ones.

£110 is a lot closer to Stew's price that I quoted above but that was from ebay, they are £85 on his website and I think there is a further discount for forum members.

I'm pretty sure hydraulic mounts on Peugeots just means they're oil filled to damp vibrations and IIRC the 205 one is oil filled. I'm sure this adds a little to the price but they're certainly not complex active hydraulic mounts as found on high end executive cars.

I got a top engine mount and a gearbox mount from Neat, thanks for the recommendation Anthony. They were only £10 each including VAT and delivery, the engine mount is a Sasic which seems fine and the gearbox mount is a genuine Peugeot one!

I have just got them so they definitely have them. Oddly enough when I first called them for a quote they were £11 each but when I ultimately ordered them they were only £10 so their prices may be too dynamic to put online...?

Good to hear :)

Have you got the part numbers or whatever from the invoice? I'll probably order myself a pair too seeing as the mounts are pretty tired on my new shell and I don't want to run full Group N mounts on it, prefering to stick with the Group N lower and standard top/buffer/gearbox mount setup given that it's primarily a road car.

Does running a GpN lower make much of an advantage over STD lower mount then Anthony? I have only ever done all GpN or all standard. (don't like running Full GpN)

The Sasic engine mount has 8431731 printed on it but they have put a sticker over that with the Peugeot part number and the invoice has Peugeot part numbers too.

Engine mount 184442

Gearbox mount 184395

Cheers - I'll give them a bell tomorrow :)

The lower mount is the one that takes the majority of the strain when coming on and off the throttle, and running that one as a Group N mount removes that on-off throttle movement but without anything like the increase in NVH that you get with a full Group N mount setup.

Also, I'm going to be running a Magnex manifold on the car, and they tend to crack if you don't run them with an uprated lower mount.
