Rover 25 Wont Start

Recommended Posts

johnnyboy666

Right, so in case it wasnt embarrassing enough that i was driving a rover, i then proceded to run out of petrol and spluttered to a stop. went and got a jerry can full and sloshed it in, but now it wont start! It'll turn over, just wont fire up at all

I thought it mightve been the immobilisor, so i manually reset that but still nothing

I'm wondering if i knackered the fuel pump or summit by running it dry?

Its a 1.4 spirit s

It definately ran out of fuel? Any chance you hit a bump and tripped the fuel cut off?

Quite common on these when you run out, apparently they need about £20 of petrol to start again. Not sure why, but seen it as a topic a couple times on the zr forum

fuel cutoff is in front off the bonnet switch just to the right of the master cylinder reservoir. give it a firm push down and it should click if its been tripped.

I would have thought its a good thing that it doesn't start as it means you don't have to drive it :D

on a side note though 20 quid definatly won't get you 20 litres now, when i put 20quids worth of super in my car i get 14 litres

yep i definately dont enjoy driving it trust me! possibly the very worst car i have ever driven, and thats before you even take into account that its a rover... having said that, the pug is on axle stands and the bus takes me 3hrs each day to get to work, so I dont have much choice! i think i'll just stick 20 litres in, if that doesnt work then I'll come up with a better plan!

I'll be honest i did contemplate pushing it to a dark alley and torching it rather than getting towed 6 or so miles home!

It was a rover 25 that wrote off my first 205 gti, I have a spare match if you need one.
