Anyone used them recently? I bought a headlamp from them a while back and was very pleased with the service. I now need a new starter motor and their website appeared to require a new registration (I'm fairly sure it was the genuine site). I tried registering at the weekend but got no confirmation and now, their website doesn't work at all. Are they having snags?

And can anyone recommend somewhere to get a new starter motor?

I managed to get registered, took two attempts though.

You should be able to get a good starter through any motor factors imo but there is always euorcarparts.

You should have at least one Starter/Alternator recon workshop place in your area. They take your old one in and you get a recon one back at a good price. I know of two in Leicester, you can also ask them to have your starter uprated for a more powerful start for cars with carbs etc.

Scrappy?

Any XU starter will fit i think, preferably get the slim type without the clicky issues though...

just a thought.

I did wonder about the different varieties - but if they call fit so much the better.

The GSF site is back up now, so I can look up their phone number :)

Be very careful as the last batch was the big bodied one which are rubbish no matter where they come from, Just ensure you ask for a slimline starter motor from a XU10 but even these now are filtering thou wrong

Based on my experience earlier today half of the 205 stuff listed in their 'online store' isn't available and can't be ordered in when you go into one of their shops.

I signed up.

Took a few days to get my info.

Searched what I needed.

Then went to my local motorfactors and bought the same parts for less.

I think this could be the turning point where you would only be able to get a lot of the parts that can be got from GSF from specialist places, as like the dealers too.

Sadly true.

About ten years ago there was a network of French car parts specialists called Andyspares, they were excellent but one day a company called German & Swedish bought all their branches and changed their name to GSF and its been downhill ever since.

It is already the other way round, dealers will still sell you engine mounts for example but I went to GSF a day or two ago and they don't supply them anymore.

What can I say - it came to day which isn't bad service £45 plus an extra £15 if I don't send the old one back.

I'm happy with that service - just wish I'd brought the tools home I borrowed from work to remove the old one...

I have to say I agree with this, aside from maybe a handful of the most organised (and hence usually most expensive) companies, most of the places we are likely to use for Peugeot parts can supply far more than is listed on their website. A phone call usually gets you far further far quicker.

Having said that I don't often use GSF for anything now, I have been supplied with some utter rubbish.

I'm stuck in the classroom and can't ring them, I normally refuse to use them. I vowed never to use the branch near me because of the f*ck ups they have come up with. The bloke who worked in there started throwing a strop launching things across the room and ran out back in a huff and refused to come out. F*cking 'tard!

SO i would rather use the online service. all i want is a price. I don't have the bloody time to get down there either.

But it's sorted now as i've ordered one online from eurocarpart. They had a 405mi16 cable in so I ordered one as it's longer.
