Does Anyone Tune Their Mi16 Afr?

I went to clean my AFR on my mi16 to solve a low running problem, which it did, and noticed the screw on the arm.

I loosened it and experimented with the position of the arm at idle. I now have a much smoother idle and power delivery.

Is this something people do, or should I leave well alone?

I assume this is the non-lambda version of Mi16. If yes, this is the only way to tune a proper idle CO AFAIK, so you're not alone! :)

 

By the way I measured my AFR-s on a 3-row ECU (chip from PeterT)

Idle: 14.7-14.8:1

light load 14-14.5:1

about half load 13.2-13.5:1

WOT 12-12.2:1

 

Without lambda feedback, idle can lean out as far as 15-15.5:1 in hot weather.

I'm sure like the 8v AFM, the 2-row AFM the mixture adjustment is just for idle so the smoother power delivery is perhaps a bit of placebo!

 

Generally I used to turn it out until the idle starts to falter then turn back in till it's smooth.

 

Only problem is once you know how to fiddle with it you'll be messing with it every few weeks when the ambient conditions change :D

I'm not talking about the screw on the AFM body, but the arm inside the AFM itself that controls the fuelling based on the airflow.

 

I've no idea about the AFR until I get it on a RR, but the car does seem to go much better now.

That's different story! It makes a huge difference in fueling in my experiences, even 2-3 teeth adjustment.

I assume that your cold start is much better now as well.

So for the 8v AFM, it's possible to adjust the mixture screw without having to have the car RR? And to clarify, fiddling with the mixture adjustment screw will not affect the air-fuel ratio at WOT? It will only affect idle?

Yes that's correct - the mixture screw is for idle tickover, and doesn't affect fuelling under load which is largely governed by the spring tension.

Cheers Anthony. I always thought it was for mixture from idle all the way through to WOT. I'm going to need more details about adjusting the mixture screw.
