RallyeP6

Hello all, i am trying to find where to purchase a head gasket for my rallye engine 1298 cc TU24. There is a sticker on the cam cover saying that the head has been skimmed and a thicker head gasket has been used (or words to that effect).

The engine warms up quite quickly but doesn't over heat, and compression ratio is a bit up and down between all four cylinders. If the head gasket is available i can go ahead and take the head off to have a look inside.

Thanks

Rouben.

The head gasket used in the TU24 is the same as a TU3/s.

If your car is standard then you will be ok running a skimmed head. Although you might want to use a vernier pully to get the cam timing spot on again.

Thanks Christopher, thats good news. I thought it might be a specific part only for the TU24.

Just one more thing, what upper engine mount are you using?, the original black one or something else.

Yes I am using an original one. I replaced the mount and the bump stops (with genuine parts) . Apparently you can use a GTI one if you remove the aluminium block underneath.

Ah i just noticed you have an original 205 Rallye.

I bought the TU24 to fit in my right hand drive shell, this is why i was asking about the engine mount. The original black steel item is too short for my bodyshell, i am currently using a cut back alloy one( to clear the carb) but its held on with two bolts. I need to make a new engine mount to fit before i shear another bolt.

Anyone else fitted a twin 40 euro rallye engine to a RHD bodyshell?.

Rouben.

I fitted the entire TU24 top end to mine using a custom built steel engine mount so that I could modify the top of the water pump housing to clear the inlet manifold.

The mount makes use of the three M8 threaded holes in the left hand face of the housing to prevent snapping off the two remaining studs. I could post a pic if you like - it's just sitting in the garage.

Hi trogboy, yes a picture would be great. To be honest its one of those jobs where as long as its holding the engine in position i can drive the car and it just gets added to the 'list of things to do'. But i know its going to shear a bolt again and i'll be in trouble one day, so i'd better move it to the top of the list.
