Any Members In Western Canada?

Recommended Posts

Ben Allen

Hey folks,

I was just wondering if there were any other members on here who live in (Western) Canada.

I moved from Northamptonshire to Vancouver three years ago, and am back in the UK for a month at the moment.

After having a string of GTIs over many years, and being fully immersed in the fine art of 'going to scrapyard, buying a tenners worth of apparent junk, flogging it on eBay', the glorious past time of 'taking bread knife to scrapyard, cutting inner seat bolsters from passenger seats, creating mint GTi drivers seats, flogging on eBay' as well as the other excellent hobby of 'buying ragged old 205s from the internet for the price of a few crates of beer, fixing up, flogging on eBay' with various other guilty parties still floating around this forum, I've been riding around in a 205 GTi (j_turnell's Miami runaround) for the first time in years whilst being over. It's a nice feeling, and brings back memories of those glory days of Pugdom.

But since moving to Canada in 2008 I have not seen a single 205 out there. Not one, not even parked under a tree gathering dust, and especially not a GTi. I know that Peugeot ceased operations in Canada in 1991, so naturally there wouldn't be much about but I've never once seen anything.

So yes, does anyone know anybody in Canada (preferably Vancouver) with a 205? It'd just be nice to see one over there.

Maybe one day I'll drive down the street and see a sad old GTi sitting, covered in moss and leaves, in someones front garden, and they'll happily give it to me. Maybe.

:)

Peugeot never sold the 205, or any of the smaller models in North America, so there won't be any, or a couple of imports at best. The last models they sold there were the 505 and 405.

I have Pug-appreciating family In Vancouver & Edmonton, probably won't be out there myself this year now though!

I think there's a chap on here from BC with a red track spec 205 on some wide compo MO's iirc, could be confusing it with Oz though i guess! There's a few 405Mi's out there though!

$7000 for an automatic?! Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez.

Guess I'm doomed then. I wonder how much it costs to import one? I'd have to go to the continent and get a left hooker though

If the mileage is correct, I'd say that's pretty cheap tbh! After all, what would a late 205 1.9 GTi with just 20k on the clock sell for over here?

$7k canadian works out at about £4.3k, then you have to consider its rarity and how older vehicles are valued there, for example a 205 or 309 gti in France still fetch a few grand for ones with a few hundred k Km on them, there aren't many cheap cars like you see here.
