Gearbox Help?

Hello I'm putting a GTI 6 motor in my 205 and was wondering if it is possible to change the gears in my 1.9 box to the 1st 2nd and 3rd gears out of a 1.6 gearbox and keeping 4th and 5th out of the 1.9 box???

The difference between a 1.6 and 1.9 'box is mostly down to the final drive - the ratios themselves are all but the same (just 1st that differs AFAIK)

 

An Mi16 or Xsara VTS 'box is something like what you're asking as they have shortish 1/2/3 and 4/5 slightly longer spaced, or you could use a GTi-6 'box if you're prepared to put up with the lack of right-hand steering lock (6th is about the same as a 1.9 5th give or take)

 

Some people use 5th out of a diesel 'box to give a long cruising gear, but I personally dislike the larger 4-5 jump that results in.

Ant's right, 1.6 box ratios differ in it's 1st ratio only. big drop 1st to second. diff (4.1) makes it feel different
