2nd hand Gti's go for a fortune my cousin was saying. He said you can get a T16 engine easier than a Gti.

Any idea on shipping cost cos mines coming with me if I go!

Does any of your mates work as pipefitter welders? Just wondering what the going rate is

Its based on the market value of the car in oz. Its really difficult to work out but this webpage ive found should give you a rough estimate.

edit:

Shipping is around a grand on a container, £700 roro.

Don't get carried away with the cheapness thing, because it isn't. I've been to Oz about 10 times now and love the place to pieces. I would move there in a second but the girlfriend is the real homely type and would never leave her family (where in WA do you live by the way)? I work in the shipping industry and did a lot of business around Fremantle.

Anyway, up until 2-3 years ago a pound would get you 2.5 dollars, but now it only gets you around 1.6 dollars. Yes fuel is cheap as chips, but a friend who's there at the moment reported boxes of cereal costing 7 quid! All your food, beer, wine is far more expensive than the UK.

However, proving you're not going there on holiday and are earning your salary in Aussie dollars, then I suppose it's all relative but the ratio of salary to cost of living is pretty much the same as the UK. Unfortunately, there are far more advantages to living down there if you're the outdorsy type. I love surfing and fishing so I'm in my element there. Plus you can buy yourself a Holden HSV Maloo if you're a tradesman (google it!) rather than a crappy Peugeot Parnet.

Bit of trivia for you, but during the Chinese and Indian growth spurt 3-4 years ago, spotty drop outs were jacking in there Maccy D jobs and driving massive trucks in the Iron Ore mines in the north for 60k per year (pounds!!).

Nah oz aint cheap as a tourist at the moment...

dont know were your shopping but cornflakes (most cereals average 4 to 7 bucks) for a 800g box is 4 bucks so say 250? a pint is 7 bucks so say 4 quid? Our weekly shop for 3 of us between 100 and 150 bucks.. (go on woolworths.com.au or coles.com.au

To say dont get carried with the price's is wrong, I know what it cost to live in the uk and I also know what it cost to live here, and in comparision we are better off here by far it's as simple as that.

We live 2hrs south of Perth, Yeah the mines are great $100+k a year just driving a truck around!! but they are fly in and fly out 2 weeks on 1week off, I dont want that its not all about the money lol

Took around 9 months all in to get the visa's, took the houses ages to sell as it was just as the crash hit :(

They are making it harder i believe to get in, but the country is huge and loads of room lol

Western australia cant fit 10 uk's in it and there is 6 states its huge lol
