Can I Ditch Any Of These? Relays Etc.

Recommended Posts

i brought the loom into the house today and spread it out, the plan is the thin out as much as possible given i have created a complete wiring loom for the managment side of things what out of these little bits can i ditch?

i guess the bit in red is redundant as i assume its part of the fan system and my ecu controls that.

but the blue im not sure about?? the bare plug has never plugged into anything and im not sure what the green and black small relay are for and the tachy relay? well who knows

any help would be appreciated otherwise i'll just tuck it all away in the bay like before

That's a Phase 1 loom isn't it by the looks of things? If so, assuming you're fitting it into a Phase 1.5/2 car, I'd start with a different loom as the Phase 1 looms are very different.

The engine management and ignition loom is self-contained on the later cars, and just plugs into the two brown plugs under the drivers side dash.

The Phase 1 loom is intertwined with the engine bay light/accessory loom, and then the ignition bits are on a separate mini-loom, and the management on another bit of loom, with the whole lot connecting upto the fusebox. Separating it out into a standalone loom is a nightmare of a job frankly having done that for EdCherry last year and rapidly wishing that I hadn't!

You might find the wiring diagrams in my project thread useful to help you diagnose what's not needed - find the zip attachment in there.

The red one is probably the dim/dip resistor?

Tachy relay does feed the ECU but possibly also the fuel pump - might want to check that...

my custom loom feeds the pump so no need to worry about that, i'll have a scan through the diagrams and see whats what cheers.
